Minister Ho Duc Phoc held a meeting with Mr. Yamada Takio, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Vietnam, at the Ministry of Finance headquarters on May 3rd. The meeting was attended by representatives from various functional units under the Ministry of Finance. This was one of Mr. Yamada Takio's final official engagements in Vietnam before the end of his term.

During the meeting, Minister Ho Duc Phoc extended his congratulations to Ambassador Yamada Takio on completing his term in Vietnam. The Minister expressed his gratitude for the Ambassador's significant contributions to the field of diplomacy and bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and Japan, particularly in the financial sector.
The Minister emphasized that in 2023, the bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and Japan would be elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia and the World. This partnership would become the foundation for a deeper and broader relationship between the two countries in the future.
The Minister highly valued the effective and close collaboration between Vietnam and Japan over the past 50 years, contributing to Vietnam's socio-economic development in areas such as ODA, taxation, customs, securities, and insurance.

In March 2024, a delegation from Vietnam's Ministry of Finance visited Japan to strengthen cooperation between the two countries' finance ministries and relevant agencies. During the visit, they also organized a successful Indirect Investment Promotion Conference in Tokyo, which garnered significant attention from Japanese investors.
Ambassador Yamada Takio affirmed: "Regardless of the position I hold, I will always support and work towards
further strengthening the relationship between Vietnam and Japan.”
The Minister of Finance of Vietnam hopes that the Ambassador will continue his support for major projects in Vietnam, such as the North-South high-speed railway and other infrastructure development initiatives. Additionally, the Minister desires continued development of the customs clearance system - the VNACCS/VCIS system - to operate stably and securely until the end of 2025 and beyond. The Minister also seeks support for ODA funding to implement a comprehensive redesign of the customs information technology system.
As a close friend, the Ministry of Finance considers the Ambassador to be an excellent support. The Minister hopes that the Ambassador will engage with his successor to continue showing interest in areas such as customs, taxation, securities, and other areas in which our two countries have closely and effectively collaborated.
Ambassador Yamada Takio has affirmed that, regardless of his position, he will always strive to support and strengthen the relationship between Vietnam and Japan in general, as well as between Japan and the Ministry of Finance of Vietnam in particular.

Under his guidance, several successful projects were implemented, including technical assistance projects for units of the Ministry of Finance through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), policy dialogues with Japanese businesses investing in Vietnam, support in capacity building and training for officials, and other initiatives. Japan also reiterated its commitment to continue supporting Vietnam in these fields.
