From 2014 up to now, the Ministry of Finance has successfully organized the investment promotion conferences and events on the sidelines in key markets such as the United States, Japan. Overseas investment promotion conferences serve as an opportunity for Vietnam to continue to develop its stock market and open investment policy of the Government of Vietnam, especially for indirect investment.
The investment promotion conference in Korea this year is expected to realize the efforts to attract investment capital from Korea to Vietnam, thus enhancing cooperation in the field of investment and finance of the two countries. This is also an opportunity for Vietnam's state management agencies as well as large enterprises of Vietnam to approach financial investors, banks and insurance companies of Korea, calling for and push up financial investment activities while listening to comments, suggestions and sharing of Korean investors on financial and insurance market in Vietnam.
The conference will focus on sharing information from the state management agencies of Vietnam on the policy of restructuring the economy, equitization of state enterprises, solutions to promote foreign indirect investment on Vietnamese stock market. At the same time, the conference provides opportunities for dialogue between the two countries’ enterprises on the advantages, difficulties and recommendations to support Korean investors in the stock market in Vietnam as well as expanding opportunities for Vietnamese companies to seek potential partners from Korea.
After 25 years of establishing diplomatic relations (since 1992), Vietnam - Korea relations have gained great achievements in many fields. Korea becomes the leading trading partner of Vietnam with total trade turnover in 2017 reached nearly 61.56 billion USD. It is also the largest foreign investor in Vietnam with total registered investment capital of $ 57.66 billion as of December 2017, accounting for 18.1% of FDI in Vietnam. In 2017, Korea's FDI into Vietnam reached $ 8.49 billion, ranking the second among countries and territories investing in Vietnam.
In the field of securities, Korean investors are paying special attention to the Vietnamese stock market as more and more Korean securities firms, fund management companies and insurance companies have their presence in Vietnam. The close cooperation between the two securities market regulators, the State Securities Commission and the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS, has created favorable conditions for investment activities of the two countries. FSS has opened a representative office in Hanoi serving as a focal point to provide necessary information for Korean enterprises wishing to invest in Vietnam./.
